Tannishtha Chatterjee is one of India’s leading art house film actors. A trained vocalist in classical Indian music, she honed her acting skills at the National School of Drama, New Delhi. She is best known for her role as ‘Nazeen’ in BRICK LANE (2007), the film adaptation of Monica Ali's best selling novel directed by Sarah Gavron. The film garnered her a nomination for Best Actress at The British Independent Film Awards, alongside actresses Anne Hathaway and Dame Judi Dench. Her other notable performances include ‘Masha’ in Academy Award winning director Florian Gallenberger’s SHADOWS OF TIME; “the woman” in ROAD, MOVIE with Abhay Deol and her role in the Bengali film BIBAR (2007), for which she won the Best Actress award at both the 2006 Osian Film Festival and the 2007 Bengali Film Journalists Association Awards. Her first film, SWARAAJ (2002), won the Silver Lotus Award at the 2003 National Film Awards of India, as well as the Audience Choice Award at the 2003 Palm Springs Festival. She has also acted in many award-winning features that have screened at film festivals worldwide such as BAS YUN HI (2003); LET THE WIND BLOW (2004); and STRINGS (2006). She will be seen next starring alongside Martin Sheen in Ravi Kumar’s BHOPAL: A PRAYER FOR RAIN.
